A Backyard That Wasn't Being Used to Its Full Potential.
The existing backyard had plenty of space, but it lacked a clear purpose. An underused patio, limited cooking area, and disconnected planting beds made entertaining outdoors feel less natural than it should.
The homeowners wanted more than a simple outdoor kitchen. They wanted a space where cooking, dining, relaxing, and conversation could happen together without feeling crowded.
Our approach focused on creating a natural flow between the kitchen, patio, garden, and home while choosing materials and finishes that could handle Austin's heat, changing weather, and everyday use.
The goal was simple: create an outdoor room that feels beautiful enough for special occasions and practical enough to use every single day.

What We Changed:
Created a custom outdoor kitchen with generous preparation and serving space
Added a dedicated dining and entertaining area connected directly to the kitchen
Reworked the patio layout to improve movement between the house and backyard
Introduced layered planting around the entertaining space for softness and privacy
Added warm outdoor lighting to extend the space into the evening
Selected durable low-maintenance materials suited to the Austin climate
More Than a Kitchen. A Place to Stay Awhile.
The new outdoor kitchen was designed as the heart of the backyard. A generous counter creates room for preparation and serving, while the adjacent dining and lounge areas give guests space to gather without getting in the way of the cook.
Natural stone and warm architectural details connect the kitchen to the existing home, while surrounding greenery softens the structure and gives the space a more established, residential feel.
From morning coffee to long summer dinners, every part of the layout was designed with real everyday use in mind.
"We finally have a backyard that feels like another room of our home. The kitchen is beautiful, practical, and has completely changed how we spend time outside. It is now our favourite place to entertain." — Daniel
